For our third blog entry we were asked to make a few more questions up about our topic. If you missed the last entry my overall topic was a Pastor.
1. For step 1 we were asked to write an inquiry question.
- Is the decline in good, biblically sound pastors due to the fact that they are not receiving the proper schooling and are not being taught true principles?
2. For step 2 we were asked to first think of more questions that may help answer our less broad topic and also think of a thesis for our topic.
- What is the suggested schooling for a Pastor? What does the Bible say about Pastors? What are some statistics of Pastors who drop out of ministry? What are some of the human thoughts on how a Pastor should behave?
- The decline of good pastors is due to the fact that Christians are watering down the Bible and starting to listen to it less and less. Also Pastor's are not receiving the education necessary to prepare them for ministry and are not being taught the ways a Pastor should act and behave.
3. For the third and Final step we were asked to tell any prior knowledge to the topic or assumptions that we may have.
- The prior knowledge that I have on this topic is that I am attending Lancaster Bible College currently studying to be a pastor. I want to learn myself reasons people drop out of ministry and ways that can prevent that. I also want to learn the proper standards a Pastor should live by and should follow. Recently however I have interviewed a pastor for my pastoral class and learned some of the struggle that he said affected him, some of which were conflict between believers and always the struggle of the sinful nature.

Step # 2- Now we were asked to pick one of the 100
items I listed to think more in depth about.
This should be an item I have questions about or am interested in
learning more about.
The topic I
chose to write about is a Pastor or the Pastoral ministry
Step #3-For the item I chose I was asked to
brainstorm a couple of questions about this topic. These should be analytical questions or
questions I don’t already know the answer to.
This is to see if I have enough room to write a research essay on this
topic.
What type of education
is expected of a Pastor?
What are the job
descriptions of a Pastor?
How much time
goes into the ministry?
What is the
average age of a pastor?
How do you
become a godly pastor?
How much study
time should a Pastor give?
How long does a
pastor work on his sermon?
How good does a
pastor need to be at English (writing his sermon)?
How much should
a Pastor pray a day?
How much time
should a pastor spend on visitations and services?

Blog assignment #1
We are currently reading through the book, The Curious
Researcher. Through this book we will be
completing the exercises by critically analyzing the assignments and then
posting them on this blog. This will be
the first post of many and will be analyzing the introduction of the book steps
1 and 2.
Step 1: For this step
I will be picking a bullet point in the book and free writing about that point
for 3 minutes on why I agree/disagree with it or how I feel about the idea
*When writing a research paper, you’re supposed to use your
own opinions.
I agree with the statement that you are supposed to use your
own opinions. You need to put thought
into a research paper. If you are just
going to restate other people points only why should they read your paper at
all your just mimicking what someone else said.
With this said I believe you need to bring a new concept to the table or
at least a new way about going about the subject. At least something to get people thinking in
a different way and possibly even thinking critically themselves. This will also help you understand things
yourself more as you begin to analyze your own beliefs and views and even
incorporate them into your research paper.
Step 2: Now we are asked to think about the truths of a
couple of statements and once again free write about them for 3 minutes.
*When two experts disagree, one of them has to be wrong.
For this particular statement I will start by saying in some
cases it can be true and in some cases it can be right. In some cases for instance when two people
argue about the existence of Jesus, the one who says he does not exist is wrong
without a doubt. But in another instance
if it is an argument over personal belief of a topic both people can be right
according to their upbringings and the way they view different things. This is what causes me to believe opinions
and facts are different. Yes there are
things that are facts and have to be true like God and Jesus but there are
different things that are personal belief and opinions such as saying Ben
Roethlisberger is the best quarterback while someone else says Joe Flacco is
the best quarterback.
